Personality:

As a result of the environment he was raised, Jackal had known only to ever work hard. He goes a little beyond this, and actively seeks to strengthen himself in order to serve the society around him. Although he has a good grasp in common sense, he lacks knowledge due to having no education growing up - even being unable to read or write beyond a few words and phrases. Because of his patient nature, he studies hard to overcome the obstactle called 'language' - even if it takes him until he is elderly. His fearlessness knows no bounds, to the point that it can become downright foolish. During his time in his home village, others would say he had air for brains due to his tendency to space right out. He is almost a text book case of 'brawn and no brains', aside from his eagerness to expand upon his already existing intelligence. But, some things will never change - and it seems Jackal's habit of speaking of other's personal business without consent, usually very loudly, is one of those things.

[+ Hard Working, + Ambituous, + Patient, + Fearless, = Loud,  - Big-Mouthed, - Foolish, - Illiterate, - Absent-Minded]

History:

When you're born in an abnormally small village, you have to work twice as hard as the normal person. This was a truth that Jackal knew even when he was just a toddler, watching his parents work themselves to the bone in a community garden. Every day for the village was a struggle - were they going to have enough food? Would they survive an attack tonight? Are the injured and ill going to die simply because they don't have enough supplies? Because of this, the village had a big unspoken rule - 'if you're not going to work, you're on your own in this world'. Jackal and his older brother hardly knew their parents beyond that they were the caregivers, and that they'd leave the home early in the morning and arrive back at an undetermined time at night if there wasn't too much work to do. The only person in his family that Jackal had any sort of emotional connection was his older brother, a Minun like him.

Daily life was repetitive. Sleep, eat, drink, speak with brother. A simple routine, but enough for the young Jackal to understand the world around him and the type of life he wanted to live - a peaceful one with no conflict. The pattern his life followed changed drastically when the Minun was eight years old. His brother whom he adored left the village, seeking a life beyond constant work and stress. This hurt Jackal deeply, as he was not strong or old enough to follow his brother at that time. His only meaningful relationship shattered and was sent far out of his grasp.

A year later, he was deemed old enough to work by the village. His mother gave him a very easy task, to care for the village Miltank, Flaaffy and other animals that supplied them with the resources the community relied on. Jackal followed the instructions of his superiors and came fact to face with a Lillipup for the very first time - something that was both terrifying and overwhelmingly exciting for the child. The warmth the animals provided for him was like that of the relationship he had with his brother. Once again, he had found a safe place full of solitude and ease. Here, he quickly learned how to care for these strange creatures and his life took an animal-orientated turn.

During the early mornings when Jackal would check the Miltank's food and water, a suspicious character confronted him. Jackal was warned of people who would visit their village to kidnap children to sell as slaves, but he never seriously thought about what would happen if he came face to face with that reality. Luck was on the Minun's said, as a Donphan shielded the child and slayed the kidnapper. The Donphan was a man who went by the name of Brunner, a Barbarian who ranked high in the village's local army. Instantly, Jackal took a deep liking to Brunner, a man who had saved him from a life of misery.

Only a month later, seeking to become closer to the hero he admired, Jackal joined the village's local army. He was younger than most of the recruits, and quickly discovered that because of his tiny frame and young age, he was no match for anyone he sparred with. This fact made Jackal furious, and he used that emotion as a motivation to become stronger. Through two years of constant training, he was right behind everyone else, and the more he trained, even stronger he became. Through what seemed beyond all odds to others, Jackal had become one of the strongest recruits, despite his awkward, skinny physique. The Minun's plan succeeded, as he was offered to be mentored by none other than Brunner himself, who had remembered the child he had saved and saw a warrior's power within him.

The next six years of Jackal's life was juggled between animals and training with the army and Brunner. The boy began to wonder why his brother ever dreamed of a life where he would not work hard to support his people. A life other than that seemed foolish to Jackal, especially in a country that had the blood of war soaked deep into its ground. Though, Jackal could not help but wonder what sort of life his brother was living and if it was truly better than the one he would have lived in the village.

Passing by the village, the Shepherds took notice of the village's hard workers and requested recruits. Jackal had no intention if joining them, as he was devoted to his own village. Brunner, on the other hand, thought it would be a waste for Jackal to remain in such a small place when he could hone his skill in a stronger army. By Brunner's persuasive words, Jackal made a last minute request to join, and set out to see the world beyond the only place he knew, his village.

Trivia:
:bulletblue: Although Jackal is a pipsqueak, he is incredibly physically strong due to years of training.
:bulletpink: I totally stole the name 'Jackal' from that one guy from Bravely Default. The characters are not alike in any way, however.
:bulletblue: Jackal has a big fuzzy soft spot for animals (or the anthropokeverse version of them) and carries food around constantly in hopes to attract them.
:bulletpink: In his village, powerful people were desirable to others as they subconsciously saw them as capable to defend and provide for a family. Because of this, Jackal had quite a few admirers for his strength.
